Aesthetic Value

Looking at the NuBrilliance Microdermabrasion kit, you wouldn’t know what it is until you open it up.  Many other at-home microdermabrasion kits don’t have a cover, so you can immediately see what they are. But the NuBrilliance’s case design means that you can close it up and it won’t look like a medical device sitting on top of your counter.

The cover makes the unit look great, and it can be stored in plain sight. Also, the NuBrilliance is available in three colors: grey, pink and white.

The exterior is made of plastic. Some users feel like it’s a bit cheap looking, while others like the colors and finish. Due to its plastic construction, you really need to be careful not to let it fall or get dinged. It’s much more fragile than a machine with a metal frame. 

The clamshell design makes the unit look great and also prevents dust from getting into the wand and various parts of the microdermabrasion system.

Upon opening the unit, you’ll find a mirror at the back of the cover to help you see yourself while performing the treatment. 

There is also a storage compartment on the kit that lets you store filters, the different diamond tips, and the wand. The cord of the wand can be wrapped around inside the product neatly as well, ensuring everything will be neat and tidy when not in use.

Technology Behind The NuBrilliance Microdermabrasion System

Microdermabrasion systems like the NuBrilliance Microdermabrasion kit combine two technologies to effectively renew the skin tone and texture. These technologies are Diamond-Tip Exfoliation and Vacuum Suction. With the two technologies properly working, improvements in the appearance of wrinkles, age spots, fine lines, sun damage, melasma, acne scarring, and other skin conditions can be observed. 

Diamond Tip Exfoliation

The first technology will deal with gently sanding away the skin with the use of diamond tips. This will help remove the thick outer skin layer. No need to panic because only the outer, dead and dry skin cells will be removed through the procedure. 

Microdermabrasion is a minimally invasive procedure that exfoliates the skin to help rejuvenate it. When the outer dead skin cells are removed, the newer skin cells will be shown and this improves the tone and texture of the skin. This machine uses diamond tips but other machines can also make use of a fine crystal stream for microdermabrasion.

Vacuum Suction

The second technology used is a powerful vacuum suction. The diamond tips are responsible for removing the dead skin cells and the vacuum is responsible for sucking it and removing the loose skin cells, blackheads, etc. 

One common complaint among NuBrilliance Microdermabrasion Reviews is weak suction power. Some users found that after several uses, the vacuum fails to provide much suction. Unfortunately, this is a fairly common theme with the NuBrilliance, so you should carefully observe yours, and if you find it doesn’t work well, return it.

That said, part of this issue may be to users not changing out their filters frequently enough. Similar to a home vacuum cleaner, if you don’t change the filters and clean it out frequently, the NuBrilliance will lose suction power.

Customizable Treatments

The NuBrilliance Microdermabrasion system offers customizable treatments. The diamond tip is interchangeable and you can choose the coarse, fine, or precision tip. The coarse tip is used for thicker areas of the face and body while the fine tip is used for more delicate areas. The precision tip can be used for hard to reach places. 

The intensity levels of the suction can also be altered, on a power level from 1-5. You should start using the lowest setting first because it can cause redness in the skin. Once you’ve done a few sessions and are confident that your skin can handle a higher intensity, then you can adjust as needed. 

All that said, many users have commented that even on the highest level, the suction is still too weak. Changing filters helped some users, but not all. This is the core concern with the NuBrilliance system.

Precautions Before Use

Although the NuBrilliance Microdermabrasion system offers a non-invasive treatment, there are still precautions you should be aware of. Take note of any pre-existing skin or medical conditions. If you have a significant sunburn, warts, skin cancer, active rosacea, vascular lesions, you should speak to your doctor before using this system. 

Those with medical conditions like unstable diabetes, autoimmune disorders, pregnancy, or those taking in oral blood thinners should not use this system before speaking with their physician.

Assembly And Use

The NuBrilliance system is very easy to assemble and use. There is no need to apply any anesthesia or a numbing agent. Just find a comfortable chair and place the unit on a stable flat surface. Make sure your skin is already free of makeup and is cleansed properly.

Begin to assemble the unit by attaching the power cord and the appropriate diamond tip to the wand. Most will suggest using the fine diamond tip for beginners. Then, you need to plug it in for it to work. Note that some users have issues with their power cord, but most were able to find replacement cords. 

Once plugged in, you can now select the appropriate intensity level. Start off at the lowest level. You can always increase the intensity but you shouldn’t rush and shock the skin with high intensity and a coarse diamond tip. 

Always take note of the suction power because it is a common issue with this unit. If the vacuum doesn’t work, then the microdermabrasion results won’t be evident. The natural glow you get after the treatment won’t be observed. Although the skin is exfoliated, it will remain on the skin unless it is removed through the suction. 

Just like Nubriliance said in their product description, suction is a very important part of microdermabrasion just like the exfoliation. Both technologies need to work together in order to have the afterglow that’s associated with microdermabrasion treatments.

After selecting the appropriate intensity level, you can now glide the wand over the face. Make sure that you clean your face first before you use it. With your free hand, you need to pull the skin taut. Use the other hand to glide the wand over the area using short strokes. 

It is also advised to do about a maximum of 3-4 passes on each area, especially if you just started treatment. For beginners, use the NuBrilliance system 2-3 times per week for 4-6 weeks and you should see results (assuming the vacuum works properly).

Care After Treatment

Slight redness, tenderness, and swelling of the skin are to be expected after the treatment, but the skin will eventually go back to normal after a few minutes or hours. This is mostly due to the suction process and not the exfoliation process. One way to prevent the redness is to tone down the intensity of the vacuum suction. You may also use the kit less frequently to give your skin ample time to rest. 

After the treatment, you can immediately resume doing your daily activities. Just make sure to keep the skin hydrated and only use products that are gentle on the skin. 

Due to the removal of the dead cells of the outer skin layer, the skin may be more sensitive than normal. That is why you should make sure that you don’t expose it directly under the sun. Always use sunscreen to protect your skin whenever you go out!

Acne topical medications should also be avoided for at least a day after the treatment. 

The dead skin cells are already exfoliated by the diamond tip so there is no need to exfoliate again with other mechanical techniques. Doing so might just cause abrasions on the skin. Instead of rejuvenating it, you may end up scarring the skin if you over-exfoliate. 

Other skin treatments should not also be done within the day or two after the microdermabrasion treatment. Such treatments that should be avoided include electrolysis, waxing the face, use of depilatories, collagen treatment, or other injection treatments.

Cleanup and Maintenance

After a treatment or two, NuBrilliance suggests throwing away the filter and replacing it with a new one. When you’re done, wrap the tubing back around the center of the unit. Place the wand back in the center position for safekeeping. 

The tips and filters can be replaced when they get dirty or dull. If you need to clean the unit, simply use a damp cloth. Make sure you don’t use any soap or alcohol. It is also not advised to submerge the unit in water or other liquid. 

To clean the diamond tips, use soap and water. After each use, check if there is a clog on the filter. The unit sucks in the dead skin cells, and a working filter must be in place so that the motor doesn’t clog up with skin cells.

If you find the unit to have a weak suction power, it may be due to the clogged filter.

Price Vs Value

Many users find the quality of this unit to be poor. The material used is not that durable, it’s fairly thin plastic. Couple the construction with the suction issues, and the whole system becomes a questionable purchase. 

For a product that costs multiple hundreds of dollars, it has to last long and perform well. Unfortunately, this unit doesn’t meet that standard. Some of the problems may be user errors, but this much user error ultimately means flawed design. 

Some reviewers had their NuBrilliance fail within a couple of uses. Others used their units for months before having the problem. Nevertheless, the suction problem renders the unit essentially unusable.

You’re better off using other home microdermabrasion machines like those offered by Trophy Skin (which we reviewed here) or Kendal Professional.

The cleanser can be used to help prep the skin and remove debris or impurities. It should be used before the microdermabrasion treatment.

The collagen regenerator is used after the microdermabrasion treatment. It stimulates the skin to produce collagen for skin regeneration.

Lastly, the moisturizing day cream hydrates the skin while soothing and calming it. 

After treatment, direct sun exposure should be avoided. You should avoid exfoliating the skin again. Also, electrolysis, facial waxing, use of depilatories, collagen, or injection treatments should be avoided.

The Bottom Line

Although NuBrilliance looks promising, it’s performance is concerning. Many users find that it doesn’t have enough suction power to effectively perform microdermabrasion. Until NuBrilliance finds a way to make sure the suction power is constant, we’ll give it a hard pass. Should this occur, we will certainly update the review.
