Fashion keeps evolving, but can be hard to kick the old dos and don’ts of certain fashion rules that no longer apply.

White is one of those colors that was relegated to spring and summer. Now that it has finally broken through that ‘not after labor day’ barrier, it can be worn year-round. So when it comes to white jeans, you’re probably wondering if there are any hard and fast rules about what color shoes you should wear with them.

Don’t let the changing seasons hold you back from wearing your favorite pair of white jeans. But if you are going to carry over white jeans into the colder months, you’ll need to style them differently. All it takes is a few strategic pieces to create a number of looks that will work for any type of weather. The shoes you choose will play a big part in that.

What color shoes go with white jeans? It depends more on the total outfit and the occasion, the season, and the place you’re wearing them, rather than what matches. Because everything matches with white!

A nude shoe looks great with white jeans. Because nudes are also neutral, they are great if you are going with a minimalist style or need a shoe that does not compete with the rest of the outfit.

Sandals are definitely spring and summer shoes. A peep-toe pump is a great style that can carry over into the fall and (depending on where you live) winter months.

If winter, where you are, is cold with lots of snow don’t worry, we have some other options for you coming up, so keep reading.

5. Bold Colors and Patterns

White pants will allow your shoes to take center stage, so why not make an impact? No one said your shoes have to be just one color!

Whether you go for a sneaker, heels, or boots, any shoe or boot with a bold patterned design will become the showpiece of your outfit.

Just a few things to remember when pairing bold footwear with white jeans.

  1. Choose one of the colors in the shoe for one of your clothing pieces or accessories to tie the outfit together. For example, if you are going with something like the floral heels above, wear a solid-colored top: pink, purple, deep red or mint green would all work. Or go neutral on the top and add some statement jewelry that picks up one of the colors in the shoes.
  2. If you are going to go bold on the shoe, keep the rest of your ensemble relatively low-key. i.e. Choose solid colors, rather than competing patterns.
  3. For fall and winter, if you want to go with bold boots, a pattern that has some white in it will look amazing with your white jeans.

6. Every Other Color!

White will go with any color. Just be mindful of the seasons and stick with seasonal colors when you’re styling out your white jeans.

Each season has its colors that are generally associated with that time of year. We’ve put together some color swatches to give you an idea of what colors you should be aiming to coordinate with.

Because white goes with anything, you just need to mind the color that’s appropriate for when you’re wearing them and the style of the shoe.

As the weather changes, you’ll want to go from strappy sandals to closed-toe shoes that give you a little more skin coverage.

Do White Jeans Make You Look Fatter?

It’s no big fashion secret that darker clothes are more slimming. This has a lot of people avoiding white jeans.

Now while it’s true that if you’re a little bottom-heavy, white jeans can make you look even heavier if they are not the right cut for you. And then there’s the whole confusion with the difference between ‘skinny jeans’ and ‘skin-tight’ jeans.

Skinny jeans just refer to pants that have a skinnier leg that tapers down to a small leg opening. They do tend to fit a bit more snugly, but skinny jeans do NOT mean skin-tight.

White jeans are so versatile that it would be a shame if you were shying away from them just because you are afraid they’ll make you look fat. They don’t have to!

We are going to share a few pointers on how to choose a pair of white jeans that are flattering for any body shape.

How Can I Look Thinner In White?

No one wants to wear something that makes them look heavier than they are. We can’t all be supermodels. In fact, most of us haven’t been a size 6 since we were… well 6!

The good news is we have six pro styling tips on what to look for when choosing white jeans to make sure your white jeans look good on you and don’t make you look fat.

Tip 1: Choose a straight leg instead of a skinny leg.

Even though skinny jeans are not actually meant to be skin-tight, they are a much more snug fit and can be harder to wear if you have more of a pear-shaped body.

Boot cut or flares can also balance out heavy hips and thighs. But straight-leg jeans are better at balancing out the body shape if you have shorter legs.

Pant legs that flare out can make short legs look even shorter.

Tip 2. Choose a thicker material.

Denim is already a pretty thick material, but you can get thinner denim. The thinner the material, the more it will show every lump and fold. Thicker, stiffer material is better at creating a smooth outline.

Tip. 3. Choose a size up.

The thought of going for a bigger size is a bit of a psychological barrier for a lot of people.

We get it.

If you are choosing your jeans based on the smallest size you can squeeze yourself into because it makes you feel better that it’s a smaller size, that momentary joy you feel in the changing room will soon be replaced by the realization that muffin tops aren’t doing you any favors.

No one will be checking your pant size label and know you went a size up. But you will have a pair of pants that fit you better, look much more flattering and you’ll be able to breathe.. both literally and figuratively.

No one will be checking your pant size label and know you went a size up

Just because you can fit into a pair of pants, doesn’t mean they fit you properly.

Tip 4. Look for jeans with flat (or no) pockets

The less you have going on in the way of bulky pant add-ons, like big pockets, drawstrings, pleats, or overly big zippers, the less it will attract attention to your midsection. And of course, the less bulk it will add.

Tip 5. Choose the right shoe!

White goes with everything, so we’re featuring a lot of different colors of shoes in this article that go with white jeans. However, there are a few colors that will help make you look slimmer and taller!

Wearing nude, metallic, or white shoes will make your legs appear longer. A pointy toe elongates more than a rounded toe.

A dark or bright-colored shoe with white pants will add an abrupt break and can make you look shorter and heavier.

Shoes with a bit of a heel also do wonders to elongate the silhouette.

Tip 6. Wear a statement top.

One of the reasons white jeans are great is that if you style them with a bold top, they just kind of fade into the background, and the attention is focused higher up. Adding statement jewelry also helps to draw the eye up.

Take Away

White jeans can make you look heavier, but follow the tips above to make sure your white jeans are more flattering than fattening!

White jeans go with all shoe colors and pretty much any type of casual shoe out there. Boots can look great with white jeans for the colder months, too.

Although white jeans can be ‘dressed up’ for a more elegant look, just bear this in mind…

White jeans are still jeans and are considered casual wear – not formal wear or office attire.

If you work in a more formal office where everyone else is in suit and ties, no matter what shoes you wear, even if you throw on a blazer, they’re still jeans and probably not appropriate for that setting.

Places or events that require more formal dress aside, white jeans can be styled to suit any casual occasion, take you almost anywhere you want to go, and be worn all year round.
