If there is one thing you should not forget to bring when you’re going to the gym, it is the towels. Towels will help you wipe off your sweat, then you’d also need one to wipe yourself dry after you take a shower. As we’ve said in a previous post, Planet Fitness does have shower stalls for their members to use. But does Planet Fitness Have Towels?
The short answer is yes, Planet Fitness does have towels. But they aren’t free for you to use, you have to buy a towel. That could be a disappointment, but they do have a good reason why they don’t offer free towels.
We’ll go into that here.
Why Does Planet Fitness Have Towels?
As we’ve mentioned earlier, Planet Fitness does have towels. However, the towels are not free to use. They are for sale in their shop. The towels are made available for customers who may have forgotten to bring their own towels.
You’re not going to be left towel-less after your squat, treadmill, and free weight workout.
The towels at Planet Fitness have their wordmark screen printed on them. It is usually made of cotton terry velour and some people purchase them to patronize the brand. Some also get them as souvenirs. And some just prefer to use them because of the fabric used for the towel.
Planet Fitness sees this as another opportunity to profit from their members. If you need a towel right then and there, wouldn’t you just buy one from them then go out and find another place to buy?
Also, are you really willing to go back home just to get your towel?
Why Don’t They Offer Free Towels?
Free towels at the gym are great. But Planet Fitness has its reasons for not providing them. The first reason is due to added expenses. If Planet Fitness allows it’s members to borrow towels, they’ll need to purchase enough towels for their members to use.
They need to have enough in their rotation so they can offer fresh towels while the others are still in the laundry.
Washing all the used towels and making sure that they are fresh and clean is another task. If they are going to bring it to a laundry shop, then that would also incur an additional cost. That additional cost would reflect on the membership fee.
Planet Fitness aims to provide a gym at an affordable membership fee so they opted not to offer free towels at their gym. They keep their prices as low as possible for the main membership by skipping a lot of amenities like saunas, pools, and basketball courts. And they only include a few extras as part of their Black Card membership.
Additionally, there is also the hygiene factor. You can’t really know how well the towel was washed, and how well it has been handled.
Why You Should Bring Your Own Towel At The Gym
People go to the gym to sweat and workout. You are likely to find people dripping sweat all over the place. Although that is a common scenario, that dripping sweat could also be a breeding ground for all sorts of bacteria and even fungus.
Think of all the areas and things where people’s sweat can go. It may even be found on the gym equipment. Germophobics can relate but they aren’t wrong. You can catch different bacteria and fungus by using gym equipment. One way to prevent this is to have your own towel and use it.
You can use your own towel to cover the surfaces that would come in contact with your bare skin. This will prevent you from getting all those nasties and from spreading them too. You can also use your own towel to wipe off the sweat on your face and body.
Using your own clean towel is better than using your hands that have touched multiple surfaces in the gym.
Carrying multiple towels is a great option too. A smaller one can be used for when you sweat, while the other can be used after your workout and take a shower.
Planet Fitness has shower stalls that you can use but they do not provide you with towels.
When working out on any Planet Fitness gym, make sure that you bring your own towel because they do not provide towels for their customers. The reason behind that is to save on the membership cost and for hygienic purposes as well.
It is always best to bring your own towel or towels whenever you go to any gym.
