What Color Shoes Go With a White Dress?

Most shoe colors will work with a white dress, and the color you choose can depend on the occasion and season. Here are 10 of our favorite options!

1. Black

Black goes with literally everything, including white dresses. Black is so versatile, it can take you from the ballroom to the boardroom to the boardwalk.

You really can’t go wrong with black.

The style of shoe will, of course, depend on the occasion, but whatever it is, black shoes and a white dress can take you there in style.

2. Nude

Nudes are neutral and also pretty much go with every color. A nude shoe will fade into the background to let you and your dress shine.. and it also makes your legs look longer!

Despite what they might call the color, a nude shoe is meant to match your skin tone. So the darker your skin, the darker ‘nude’ is for you.

So be it nude, camel or taupe, tan or brown, don’t get hung up on color names.

Choose a shoe that is close to your skin tone to get this neutral go-with-anything effect.

3. Brown

Brown looks great with more casual white dresses. Pair them with a matching bag and accessories and you’re good to go.

4. Gold

Gold shoes are much more often reserved for more formal occasions. White and gold go fantastically well together.

And because gold is a warm color, it will go just as well with a white dress, as an off-white, or ivory dress.

5. Silver and Champagne

Gold can be a little over-the-top. If you are looking for a little more reserved bling, champagne and silver both fit the bill.

Whereas silver is a cool color and is better suited to white dresses, if your dress is a little off-white, leaning more towards ivory, a shoe in a champagne color will look amazing.

Champagne can range anywhere between a peachy to rose gold and looks great with an off-white dress.

6. White

You can of course always wear white shoes with your white dress. But unless it’s your wedding, white shoes are best left for a spring & summer wardrobe.

However, white boots are a whole different story.

White has broken through the labor day weekend barrier and can be worn in fall and winter – as long as you style it properly for the season!

Can You Wear Ivory Shoes With A White Dress?

You can wear anything you want to! That said, ivory shoes with a white dress are usually not the best combo because they will clash.

It’s as simple as that.

And vice versa, pairing really white shoes with an off-white dress will not only clash, but make your dress look dirty.

If you want to match the shoes to the dress – go white with white, and ivory with ivory.

7. Clear

Clear shoes are almost invisible, so they for sure go with a white dress. If you’ve been having trouble finding a nude shoe that’s the right color for you, go clear!

Problem solved.

Clear shoes have the same benefits as wearing nude shoes. They don’t distract from show-stopping dresses, and make the perfect accompaniment to a minimalist outfit.

They are also great at elongating the leg.

8. Pastels

Ideal for spring, pastels and a crisp white dress look amazing together.

Pastels are understated and won’t take away from the dress, but add just enough of a hint of contrast to be noticed.

While blush will go with both white and off-white dresses, cooler colors like light blue and mint are best suited for dresses that are pure white.

9. Bright Colors

Fushia, turquoise, coral, royal blue, and orange: these are all summer colors and do wonders for showing off a good tan. Shoes in fun pop of almost any bright, saturated color can be worn with a white dress in the summertime.

The only color we would advise against is yellow.

Yellow is a bit too close to white and your shoes won’t pop as much as any other bright color would.

When you have so many other color choices that look better, go for one of them. Yellow has its place, but not with a white dress.

10. Animal Print

If you have a white sweater dress, combine it with ankle boots in an animal print.

Animal print can be a lot to take in if there’s too much of it. It’s best used in small doses – shoes are perfect for that!

Conclusion

A white dress can go with pretty much any color of shoes.

The only thing you need to be mindful of is that if your dress is off-white, rather than pure white, it’s best to match it with warmer colors.
