Beige is beige. It’s simple, and it can be sophisticated and stylish, but it can also run the risk of being bland and boring.

If you don’t want to blend into the background, or the rest of the crowd, pairing your beige dress with the right shoes can take your plain-Jane beige dress to a statement-making outfit.

Now of course the shoes that will be the right for your beige dress will depend on what statement you are trying to make. And not every statement has to be shouted from the rooftops. A strong, but quiet statement can make just as much of an impact.

If you’re wondering what shoes to wear with a beige dress, it will depend on the style of your dress and why you’re wearing it.

Because beige is such a versatile color, it can go from super casual to formal.

So, in this article we are going to look at different styles of shoes, from casual to formal, in different colors that will look great with a beige dress. We are also going to talk about a few colors you may want to avoid with a beige dress.

Can You Wear Brown and Beige Together?

Beige is essentially a really, really light brown. They’re in the same color family, which means they go amazingly well together. You can combine most neutrals to create a monochromatic outfit that is both dynamic and stylish. This is why brown shoes go well with khaki pants.

While beige works with brown and so many other colors, there are a few colors that don’t go quite as well with beige.

What Color Shoes To Avoid With A Beige Dress

The bonus of a beige is that it’s neutral and it will look fantastic with almost every color under the rainbow… almost

There are a few shoe colors you may want to avoid. Not that all of these on the list are colors you can’t wear with a beige dress, but if you are looking to be part of the action, rather than part of the scenery, here are our picks of colors you may want to avoid:

  • Almost any bright color will go with beige, except for yellow. Yellow clashes with beige.
  • Avoid pastels that are close in tone and shade to your dress if you have a very fair skin tone. Colors like champagne, peach, light pink and nude colored shoes will all get lost in a sea of bland because there is not enough of a contrast. You can wear those colors if you want to, but with all of the colors available that look SO much better with a beige dress, why would you want to?
  • Avoid white shoes. They will just make a beige dress look dirty and dingy.
    • Exception to the Rule: if your dress is white and beige, you can wear white shoes because your shoes will pick up on the white in the dress, rather than highlighting the color difference between the dress and the shoes which are close, but just a little off.
  • Avoid beige shoes that are the same color or very close to the color of your dress if your dress is a solid beige and you have a very fair skin tone. It’s just too much of the same – beige skin, beige dress, beige shoes… Instead, opt for darker neutrals, like tan, taupe or brown shoes with a beige dress, as long as there’s enough of a contrast. You can wear beige shoes with your beige dress because at the very least, they will not clash. But an all beigeoutfit with a fair complexion is a one way ticket to Blandville.
    • Exception to the rule: If your dress is predominantly beige, but has other colors in it, or different neutrals, then beige shoes (or boots in this case) can look fantastic together.

What Shoes To Wear With a Beige Dress

We are going to break down some shoe styles for you. Depending on whether you have a beige sweater dress or a beige evening gown will really dictate which style of shoe you want to go with.

So we are just going to lay out a bunch of styles and colors that will go with a beige dress, but it’s up to you to pick the right shoe and the right color for you and your dress.

1. Cutouts

Cutouts basically look like they were ankle boots or a pair of shoes that have had material cut out of them. They tend to have a lot more material covering the foot than a normal sandal or pump and they often wrap around the ankle.

They also often have a block heel, but not always.

Cutouts look great with any dress, beige or otherwise, because they look purposeful. It’s like you knew exactly what you were doing when you put them on!

Don’t be afraid to try a bolder color or design on your shoe.

If your dress is a solid beige, you can afford to experiment a little with your shoes with both the color and pattern. That said, if you are unsure, black and brown are always solid choices.

2. Mules

Mules are basically a shoe you can just slide into. Not only are they super easy to wear, but also super versatile and can be worn with a variety of outfits, including dresses. Their backless design makes them easy to slip in and out of. And they give your feet a little room to breathe while still looking fashion-forward.

Mules come in all sorts of styles, from flats and wedges to platform and heels, as well as different heights. They can go from strappy to full coverage, all of which can look great with a dress, so you have a lot of options.

Neutrals look good together. That’s to say brown, tan, taupe, mushroom… all of those sorta in between white, grey, and brown colors will look good with a beige dress.

Although you may not want to wear beige shoes with a beige dress, shoes that have beige as your dress and another color will look fantastic and pull your whole outfit together.

3. Slingbacks

A slingback is a shoe that has a strap around the back of the heel instead of a full heel covering.

Slingbacks come in a variety of styles and heel heights from flats to stilettos, so you are bound to find a slingback that suits your style and your dress.

If you are wearing a solid beige dress, not only can you afford to experiment with color, like going for a bold fushia, but with texture as well.

Animal prints are back in right now.

And while cheetah and leopard can sometimes border on trashy, snakeskin is ALWAYS in. But why not take it one step further and go for fish scales? Let out your inner mermaid and go for the unexpected animal print!

5. Strappy Block Heels

Now as sexy as a stiletto heel can be, they are not for everyone. If you are looking for something with a little height without the risk of spending the evening sitting in a corner with a bag of ice on your twisted ankle, a strappy block heel is your savior.

Not only are block heels a lot more sturdy and less prone to getting stuck between pavers and in drainage grates than stiletto heels, they’re also a LOT more comfortable.

You also don’t need ‘practice’ to walk around in them.

Strappy block heels come in different heights, so you can choose the one that you’re most comfortable with.

Apart from the ‘colors you may want to avoid’ that we’ve gone over, you can really wear any other color you want with beige. And don’t feel pigeonholed into thinking that your shoes have to be one color.

If your dress is beige, it allows for you to get a bit creative with your footwear, so don’t be afraid to go with a bold floral, a pattern, or block colors.

Conclusion

The shoe style that’s best for your beige dress will depend on the style of the dress and how formal or casual it is.

As far as color goes, almost every color goes with beige, because it’s neutral. Beige is a great neutral canvas to have some fun and let your personality shine through.

We’d mentioned ‘colors you may want to avoid’ above which are only a guideline, except for yellow. Yellow looks horrendous with beige. And white really will make a solid beige dress look dirty.

Even if you have a really fair skin tone, beige or light pastel shoes with a beige dress isn’t going to have anyone calling the fashion police. But that’s probably because they didn’t even see you standing there.
