Everyone wants to have beautiful, glowing skin. These days, most people have a beauty regimen to keep their skin gorgeous and radiant and tend to avoid things that will cause damage to their skin.

A major cause of skin damage is excessive exposure to UV rays from tanning bed bulbs or the sun..

Spending too much time under the sun causes the skin to be tanned, which usually seems more evident on the forehead.

We’ve put together this article: how to get rid of forehead tan as a guide to help you balance everything out on your skin and face.

Tanning 101

Sun has been popular for well over 100 years. The process of tanning occurs when the skin color is darkened due to an increase in melanin. This increase is caused by significant exposure to sunlight.

It is the body’s natural way of preventing the skin from being damaged by the sun.

The melanin released under the skin’s surface helps absorb UV rays from the sun.

So, the longer the exposure to sunlight, the darker the skin’s tan.

Some of the areas of the body that tend to tan are the face, neck, arms, leg, hands, and feet (but not the palms or the soles of the feet).

Why is Your Forehead Darker Than the Rest of the Body?

The facial skin produces more melanin than the rest of the body.

The increased melanin causes the facial skin, and in particular the forehead, to be darker than the rest of the body when excessively exposed to sunlight.

Sunlight and/or UV radiation can affect and damage the skin’s melanin cells. And the melanin cells on the face and the forehead are the first to be affected.

How To Get Rid of Forehead Tanning

Suntan affects the body’s immune system and can result in skin damage. There are several ways to get rid of tan, but the best solution is simply patience. Your tan will fade and blend over the next few days.

But sometimes patience doesn’t work, like if you have a date or an event! If you want to get rid of your forehead tan, you can try the following:

1. Bronzer or Blush

The simplest way to “get rid” of forehead tanning is to blend it away using makeup. Simply use some bronzer or blush to balance out your color tone mismatches and blend your tones.

This solution is by far the most convenient and easiest to do, particularly because your tan will naturally fade over the next several days if you don’t go back out in the sun.

2. Laser Toning

This is an expensive but effective way to get rid of suntan. The process involves having a dermatologist use a laser device to minimize the skin’s tan by breaking down the melanin pigment.

When lasers are used, the heat energy targets specific melanin and breaks them down without affecting the surrounding tissue.

The lasers penetrate deeper into the skin to get rid of the excess melanin.

3. Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is another treatment used for tan removal. It involves exfoliating the dead, dull skin cells in which excess melanin has been accumulated. Exfoliation promotes the quick regeneration of new skin cells, causing the skin to look more toned, firmer, and younger.

Microdermabrasion has two methods: Crystal microdermabrasion and diamond-tip microdermabrasion.

The former involves spraying tiny particles on the face using a wand, while the latter involves exfoliating the skin using direct contact with an applicator.

4. Creams

Several creams work well in removing skin tan by lightening the skin’s upper layers. An excellent tan removal cream will penetrate the deeper layers of the skin to inhibit enzymes facilitating melanin production.

5. Various Home Remedies

Home remedies are a quick way to get rid of tan. Some home remedies include:

Aloe Vera

Aloin is an active ingredient in the aloe vera plant, and it has several benefits. Aloe vera extract is commonly used to treat pigmentation problems.

How to use:

  • Use the aloe vera extract on your face and wash it off after 15 minutes. Do this every day.
  • You can also use two tablespoons of extracted aloe vera to make a face mask.
  • Use the mask for 10 – 15 minutes.

Honey and Lemon Juice

The bleaching effect of lemon juice makes it an effective method of getting rid of tan. Honey soothes the skin and makes it supple and soft. You should always use lemon juice in its diluted form and avoid stepping out with it on your skin.

How to use:

  • Add some honey to one tablespoon of fresh lemon juice.
  • Apply on the skin and leave for 30 minutes before washing off.
  • You may also use lemon juice and sugar. Gently scrub your skin to slough off superficial dead skin cells.

Yogurt and Tomato

Yogurt contains lactic acid, and it’s good for the skin because it softens the skin and reduces its color. Conversely, tomatoes contain antioxidants that help brighten the skin.

How to use:

  • Remove the skin from the raw tomato.
  • Blend with 1 or 2 tablespoons of yogurt.
  • Use the paste on your skin and leave for 20 minutes before washing off.

Buttermilk and Oatmeal

Buttermilk contains lactic acid and improves skin tone, while oatmeal has excellent skin cleansing and exfoliating properties.

How to use:

  • Soak two teaspoons of oatmeal or oat in half a cup of water for five minutes.
  • Add 2-3 teaspoons of fresh buttermilk.
  • Mix well to form a paste.
  • Apply the paste to the tanned area and rub gently.
  • Wash off after 20 minutes.

Cucumber Extract

Cucumber extracts are beneficial for removing tan. It has a cooling effect and is great for sunburned or tanned skin.

How to use:

  • Shred a cucumber and squeeze the juice out.
  • Apply the juice to your skin using a cotton ball.
  • Leave it to dry before washing off.

Final Thoughts

The best way to prevent your skin from getting damaged by UV rays is by avoiding excessive exposure to sunlight.

If you do get a tan, you may decide to leave it alone as a tan fades over time.

Your skin naturally sheds the skin cells that have accumulated melanin and regenerates new cells. Your best bet is to just stay calm, maybe use a little blush or bronzer to balance out the color, and wait it out.

However, you can use the above treatments to quickly rid yourself of a tan if you need to.
