If you ask anyone who has a makeup kit, they’ll probably tell you that they have a liquid lipstick somewhere in there. It’s so helpful! Just swipe your favorite shade on your lips and you are ready to go.

One day, you pull out your favorite liquid lippies, twist the cap, and pull out the wand. Unfortunately, it looks like it isn’t as… liquid… as it used to be. It looks clumpy and all dried out.

What do you do?

In this article, we’ll go over how to revive dried-out liquid lipstick so that you can still get a lot of use from your seemingly dried-up one.

Reviving that dried-up liquid lipstick  is possible. Sometimes, liquid lipsticks end up clumpy and dry.

Although some people can still apply them to their lips, the consistency isn’t right, and it is hard to spread.

You can still make good use of that liquid lipstick if you just follow some of our tips and tricks below. However, before you do that, you first have to figure out if your liquid lipstick is worth salvaging.

Like other lipstick products, liquid lipsticks expire. Once you’ve opened your liquid lipstick, you have one year to use it. Even if they seem pretty okay, it wouldn’t be a good idea to keep liquid lipstick too long.

It could already be harboring bacteria.

Take a sniff of what your liquid lipstick smells like. A pungent odor, or change in odor, could indicate that your liquid lipstick is no longer good.

If this is the case, you should buy a new one rather than trying to save it.

How To Fix Dried-Out Liquid Lipstick

If your liquid lipstick still seems to be good, but just dried up, that’s when you can do any of the following methods to try to revive it.

1. Warm Water Technique

In this procedure, all you need is a cup of warm water. You could also try using hotter than warm water, but make sure it is not too hot. The plastic packaging of most liquid lipsticks could melt due to the heat.

Place just enough water to submerge the part of the lipstick where the product is. You don’t really need to submerge the entire tube of liquid lipstick.

Place the warm water in a cup and place the liquid lipstick in an upright position. Just let it sit there for about 15 minutes then check the consistency.

Make sure that the water doesn’t get into your liquid lipstick so keep the cap tight and keep the water level lower than the opening of the tube.

2. Heat It Up With A Hair Dryer

Another way to remedy your dried-out liquid lipstick is to use a hair dryer. There is a hot setting in your dryer, and you should use high heat.

Keep it pointed towards the end of your liquid lipstick. It would only take about 3-5 minutes of doing this before you can check if the consistency is already good.

3. Try Adding Coconut Oil

Another thing that you could do is to add a few drops of coconut oil to the tube of your dried-up liquid lipstick. About 3-4 drops will be enough to make your liquid lipstick workable again.

Once you’ve added the coconut oil with a dropper, shake it well and warm it up with your hands, that will make sure that you mix it well with the other ingredients in the tube.

Coconut oil is safe to add. It is edible (more than your lipstick, certainly!) and it gives lots of benefits when applied to your lips. It has moisturizing properties to help prevent lips from chapping. Plus, it has anti-microbial properties to prevent bacteria from thriving.

However, coconut oil will get solid at colder temperatures, so this won’t work if your lipstick is often in a cold area.

4. Mix Some Aloe Vera Gel

If you are going to use aloe vera gel to try and rehydrate your dried-out liquid lipstick, make sure that you get some fresh and natural gel. You don’t really need a lot to rehydrate the liquid lipstick. A pea-sized amount will be enough.

Then, thoroughly try to mix the liquid lipstick by shaking it.

Aloe vera is a great natural product that has hydrating properties to help prevent your lips from getting dry.

4. Try Inglot Duraline

Inglot is a makeup brand that produces the Inglot Duraline . It is usually added to powdered eye shadow to make it look more vibrant and to help it adhere properly to the eyelids. However, this could be used to revive dried-out brow or gel liners as well.

In addition to that, it could be used to help out with your dried-out liquid lipstick. Adding a few drops of this will bring back your liquid lipstick to life.

It is a colorless and transparent liquid so it won’t ruin the shade of your favorite liquid lipstick. But don’t add too much, or you’ll end up with a runny consistency.

Try to add a drop or two at first and see if that is already enough. Make sure to mix it properly and thoroughly first before deciding to add more.

When mixing your liquid lipstick with the solution, make sure that you only shake it because using the wand might just introduce excess air into the tube.

Why Does Liquid Lipstick Dry Out? And How To Prevent It

Liquid lipstick can dry out due to the specific formulation of the color. Some brands just really have liquid lipsticks that dry out faster than others.

Aside from that, the main reason why your liquid lipstick dries out fast is that the tube isn’t tightly closed. When you use your liquid lipstick a lot and forget to tightly close it, the air can dry it out.

The best way to prevent your liquid lipstick from drying out is to make sure that you tightly close the cap. This prevents exposure and air from getting into your liquid lipstick and drying it out prematurely.
