Press-on nails are a convenient alternative to acrylics or gel nails. They are pre-made and come in various shapes, sizes, and colors. They are much easier to apply than nail extensions.

Sometimes the press-ons you purchase don’t sit on your natural nails correctly. And while there are a bunch of size options, those generally address nail width, not nail curvature.

In this article, we’ll look at press-on nails for flat nail beds and give you some tips to get your press-ons to adhere properly.

Press-on nails have been around for decades, but they have seen a popularity resurgence in recent years due to their convenience and affordability.

Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to get press-on nails to work with flat nail beds. We’ll explain below!

Matching the proper press-on nails to your type of nail bed is key. It prevents your nails from popping off or causing pain.

If you apply curvy press-on nails on a flat nail bed, they won’t adhere well. It’s more likely that they will instead pop off due to gaps between your natural nails and the press-on nails.

And it’s worse than that!

If you have a gap between your natural nails and the press-on, that little gap is a place where water and moisture like to collect, especially if you get your nails wet. That’s bad news, as it can lead to nail fungus if you’re not careful.

What Can You Do If You Have Flat Nail Beds?

Adhesive tabs

Most press-on nails use double-sided adhesive tabs to secure the falsie to the natural nail. It’s super easy, and it works kinda like tape.

Except when you have flat nail beds.

If your natural nails aren’t curved in the same manner as press-ons, you’ll have much more like using nail glue than adhesive tabs.

Nail glue will make your press-on last longer. And you can actually press down a bit on the false nail while the nail glue is hardening. This will ensure a good bond between your natural nail and the false nail.

Note: don’t push down so hard that the glue squeezes out onto your fingers.

Talk to A Manicurist

A great way to get some recommendations that will work best with your nails is to talk to a local manicurist. Even if you want to do your press-ons at home, you can get a whole lot of information from a local pro about which nails will work best on your nails.

You will need to pay for a professional manicure, but while it’s going on, you can ask away and get tons of info about which nail tips and forms are best for your nails.

Flat Nail Beds and Their Causes

Many people have problems with their nail beds. Some of the most common problems are dry, brittle nails that easily break, nails that peel away from the flat nail bed, and nails that are too thick.

The nail bed is the hardest part of your nail. It is pinkish-colored soft tissue underneath your nail plate.

The cuticle protects your skin from bacteria and infection. If you pick or bite at your cuticles, you can cause damage to your nail bed and make it more difficult for them to grow properly.

Several factors cause flat nail beds, including:

  • Inadequate hydration
  • Improper nutrition
  • Poor blood circulation
  • Excessive use of hand sanitizers and detergents
  • Aging

Conclusion

If you’ve got flat nail beds, press-ons can be a problem, particularly with the adhesive tabs. They just don’t stay on well. Try switching to nail glue (or an alternative) and take your time applying the nails. Make sure they are fully in contact with the natural nail.

Good luck!
