Tingle Tanning Lotion Side Effects

Tingle tanning lotions are designed to produce a deep, dark tan. The most common side effects while using tingle tanners include:

  • A tingling sensation
  • Your skin turning slightly red
  • Finding blotches on your skin
  • Experiencing a burning sensation

Let’s take a closer look at these side effects.

Tingling Sensation

It’s not called Tingle Tanning Lotion for nothing! These lotions have chemicals like Methyl Nicotinate that are designed to bring blood and oxygen to the surface of the skin. This helps amplify the tanning process.

These chemicals produce a tingling sensation in the skin, and are what give Tingle Lotions their name.

Redness

Redness is a common side effect you can expect to experience when you use a tingle tanning lotion. This is simply due to the lotion reacting with your skin.

In other words, don’t panic when you see your skin turning red after you apply your tingle tanning lotion.

It’s not a sunburn or anything like that. It is evidence that the lotion is working!

How long does tingle lotion make you red?

The redness should go away over the course of the next few hours to a day after you apply your tingle tanning lotion. The exact amount of time this will take depends on the person.

Users with pale skin may find that the redness lasts longer for them, while those with darker skin that can more readily tan will see the redness go away faster.

Note: Tingle Tanning Lotions are not made for those with pale skin. Get a base tan before you dive into tingle tanning lotions.

Blotches

Blotching is another common side effect that you can expect to experience when you use tingle tanning lotion. It’s about as minor as the redness mentioned above.

If you notice that your skin is turning blotchy when you apply tingle tanning lotion, it may be due to the lotion being unevenly distributed over your skin.

Whenever you use this lotion, be sure to work it into your skin as evenly as possible.

That said, blotches can still occur even if you do everything right. If you notice that your skin is turning blotchy after applying your lotion, don’t rush to reapply it.

Wait for a few days to see if the blotches work themselves out of your skin. If they don’t, then you can reapply your tingle tanning lotion to any remaining light spots.

Burning Sensation

While this side effect is a little less common than the other ones, it’s still a possibility that you should be prepared for.

Sometimes the tingling sensation can go a bit far, and can reach burning territory.

Users with sensitive skin tend to experience a burning sensation when they use tingle tanning lotions, especially if they’re first-time users.

This side effect shouldn’t concern you immensely, as it’s relatively common and it won’t have any adverse effects on your skin. It should go away in a fairly short time.

If you can’t bear the sensation, then you can step into the shower (hopefully using cold water) to rinse away the tingle tanning lotion and alleviate the burning sensation.

Discomfort

Feeling mild discomfort in your skin when using a tingle tanning lotion is much more common than a burning sensation, and it shouldn’t worry you.

Due to the way Tingle Tanning Lotions send blood to your epidermis, it’s natural to feel discomfort. It’s a relatively unusual feeling that doesn’t happen naturally.

This feeling should subside over the course of the day after you use your tingle tanning lotion. If it doesn’t go away or it’s too much, you can take a shower or jump in the water to wash off the lotion.

If the discomfort turns into outright pain that doesn’t go away, then you may be having a bad reaction or allergic reaction to the tingle tanning lotion. If that is the case, you should seek medical attention to see if there’s anything serious behind your reaction.

How To Get Rid of Redness From Tingle Lotion

You need to let your tingle tanning lotion dry and soak into your skin. If you wipe it off prematurely, you may run into redness and irritation.

Take your time, let the tingle lotion dry for a few minutes, then gently wipe off any excess with a towel.

Your skin will be red and tingly for up to an hour after the application. After that, the redness should go away.

Avoiding Tingle Tanning Lotion Side Effects

If you want to make sure that you can minimize your side effects, there are a few things that you can do to prepare for using your tingle tanner.

First off, try experimenting with your tingle tanner on a small patch of your skin to see how it reacts to it, since this is how you can expect your whole body to react when you apply it.

To prepare your skin for the lotion, make sure that you moisturize it. Moisturized skin will cut down on the side effects and will also improve the results of your tan.
