Can You Wear Headphones in a Tanning Bed?

You’ll notice that several of these items involve listening to audio. So can you use headphones in a tanning bed? Are you going to fry your AirPods or have weird tanning effects on your ears?

Yes, you should be able to use headphones in a tanning bed. While tanning beds get hot, they don’t typically get so hot that they could damage your headphones.

If you are concerned, you could check with one of the salon employees, or the tanning bed manufacturer.

What To Do While Tanning

The harsh light of the UV tanning bulbs is intense, sometimes up to 26 times the power of sunlight! You don’t have to spend too long in a tanning bed, but you won’t be able to see due to the tanning bed goggles.

So what do you do with that time?

One of the best things about having a tanning session is that it’s your time to do absolutely anything you want… within reason, of course.

Most of us have busy, hectic schedules that involve helping or looking after others.

We aren’t always able to factor in me time. So a tanning bed session offers you the perfect opportunity to do just that… have some me time.

So, here are some things you can do while tanning…

1. Listen to music

Either curate your own or find a chillax Spotify playlist that you can feel in your soul, and allow the music to carry you away to some far-off place so that your imagination runs free.

Or simply put on your favorite tunes and sing along… most beds make a lot of noise, so don’t worry about anyone hearing you!

2. Listen to a podcast to learn something

There are so many good podcasts available now on topics ranging from comedy or personal development to politics or cooking.

There is something to learn for everyone, depending on your interests. Stream an episode or two for your next tanning bed session.

3. Practice gratitude

Gratitude means to be grateful for what you have. And it is a high vibrational emotion that will boost your endorphins, along with your vitamin D happy hormone top-up, even more.

There have been many psychological studies done on how gratitude affects the body.

In one study, it was found that after just 10 weeks, those who had incorporated a gratitude practice into their routine exercised more, were more optimistic and felt better about themselves in general.

During your next tanning bed session, simply list in your head all the things in your life you are grateful for and why.

Benefits of Gratitude

  • Boosts confidence — When you acknowledge what you already have, it makes you feel more positive about life.
  • Better relationships — When you appreciate life, your confidence shines through, which means the people around you appreciate you more and it becomes easier to work through concerns and problems when they arise.
  • Increases optimism — The more you feel grateful, the more there is to be grateful about, which is an easy way to feel better about everything. And we need a lot more of that these days.
  • Reduces stress — Because gratitude helps you sleep better and lowers your blood pressure, you feel better physically, which decreases your anxiety and stress. Result!

4. Kegel exercises

Strengthening your pelvic floor is something you probably know you should do, but you probably never do it. What better time to start than in your tanning bed session. Kegel exercises are easy clench-and-release movements that will help you do just that.

And best of all, no one will know.

5. Meditate

Meditation has become a popular way for many people to control their anxiety and stress. Even starting at five minutes a day can have a profound effect on your health, including improving mental clarity and better sleep.

Find a short guided meditation to start with and download it in preparation for your next tanning bed session.

6. Dance

If you’re using a tanning booth instead of a bed, each session is an opportunity to crank your favorite tunes on your headphones and dance your way to bronze skin like no one’s watching.

Because they aren’t!

7. Sleep

Naps aren’t just for children and elderly people. Most adults could benefit from a nap, especially if they’re feeling a lot of stress or anxiety.

People who nap regularly for 20-30 minutes have more memory recall than non-nappers. That’s why the term ‘power nap’ originated. Power naps are best taken in the early afternoon to help you recharge after the body’s natural decline in energy.

NASA has even tested astronauts on the effects of power napping. The result: it found that power napping has a profound effect of boosting both alertness and performance, so power up and recharge with a nap while you get your glow on.

Just remember to occasionally move around while in the tanning bed so you don’t get weird creases in your skin.

And that’s what to do while tanning.
