The T3 Cura Luxe

T3 - CURA LUXE Hair Dryer | Digital Ionic Professional Blow Dryer | Frizz Smoothing | Fast Drying Wide Air Flow | Volume Booster | Auto Pause Sensor | Multiple Speed and Heat Settings | Cool Shot

The black and rose-gold T3 Cura Luxe hair dryer is powered using T3’s patented Digital Ion Air Technology. T3 says that this technology dries your hair quicker while leaving it feeling smoother and looking shinier.

Ionic hair dyers use negative ions in the airflow to calm flyaways and keep the frizz at bay.

You’ll find a volume booster switch on this model, two-speed settings, five digital heat options, and a cool-shot button (always an important feature of a hair dryer!).

Perhaps the most cutting-edge feature that the Cura Luxe offers is its automatic pause sensor, which turns the hair dryer off automatically when you let go of the handle.

1. Attachments

The nozzles available for the T3 Cura Luxe could certainly be less cumbersome. They’re difficult to lock in, and once you get them on, they become hard to remove. What’s more, if you want to rotate the nozzle to change the airflow direction, you’re out of luck – that’s just not possible with the Cura Luxe.

Still, this hair dryer isn’t all bad! It’s got several redeeming qualities.

2. Weight

T3 was thorough when it came to the ergonomics of their Cura Luxe. This hair dryer is superbly lightweight, especially compared to its predecessor. However, compared to the Dyson, it is the heavier of the two.

3. Drying Time

The average time it takes for the T3 Cura Luxe to dry a full head of hair is around 20 – 30 minutes, depending on your hair texture and thickness. This value will vary depending on your head of hair.

4. Functionality

One of the great things about the T3 is that it features a host of settings, including the previously-mentioned volume booster switch, which removes smoothing ions to add volume to your hair.

A definite drawback of the Cura Luxe suffers is its automatic shut-off feature. It can be especially useful if you set your dyer down often when you are styling, but lifting just one finger off the handle can sometimes stop the airflow.

The worst part is that it takes a few seconds for their air to heat up again once it starts back up. Something to keep in mind.

The Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer

Like its Dyson fan and vacuum cousins, the famous Dyson Supersonic hair dryer is built with a digital monitor. It provides a high-pressure, focused airstream that dries hair at lightning speeds.

It boasts four heat settings, a cold-shot button, three options for airflow, and an ionizer.

Dyson claims that this hair dryer is six times faster than the average hair dryer while weighing just a third of the weight. You’ll have to judge for yourself whether these claims hold up, but we can help give you some other information about the Dyson Supersonic.

1. Attachments

The Dyson Supersonic has five attachment options, each pretty easy to use. Unlike the T3 Cura Luxe, getting the attachments on the Dyson is a piece of cake. They are magnetized, so you can simply slot them in with minimal effort (sometimes you need to twist!).

Even better is that you can change and rotate the position of the attachments to change the direction of the airflow.

Once again, this isn’t possible on the Cura Luxe.

We’ve done an in-depth explanation of how to use and remove the Dyson attachments.

2. Weight

The Supersonic is a wonderfully light hair dryer with some good, even balancing. The heaviest component of the dryer – the motor – is in the handle, which evens out the weight distribution to give the dryer a comfortable feeling in the hands.

For the amount of power that the Dyson can provide, it really doesn’t weigh that much. Even if you have the weakest arms in the world, we’d be surprised if they became even a little fatigued while using the Supersonic.

3. Drying Time

Like its T3 competitor, the Dyson takes around 20 to 30 minutes to dry a full head of hair. Once again, this time frame will change depending on how much hair you’re working with, as well as the texture of your hair.

4. Functionality

One thing we like about the Dyson Supersonic is its shape. Its unique shape makes it easy to maneuver the dyer around your head and is also highly convenient when it comes to storage and transportation.

There’s no rear vent on this dryer, so you won’t have to worry about your hair getting caught in a tangled mess inside this dryer. Switching between heat settings is a piece of cake, especially since there are only two buttons for you to push.

Perhaps the only real issue that the Dyson suffers from is comfort. Sure, getting the attachments on is simple, and it’s easy to navigate the buttons, but actually getting the device to stay comfortably in the hands while drying is another ball game – one that you might struggle with.

How to Use a Hair Dryer the Correct Way

Whether the Dyson or the T3 has won you over, you will need to know how to use them properly in order to maximize their effectiveness. Here are some pro tips for becoming a hair-drying master.

1. Start with clean hair

After you have washed your hair, it is far easier to style and generally just looks better. Use your favorite shampoo or conditioner to wash your hair, though we strongly recommend using a moisturizing shampoo.

As the name suggests, it will moisturize your hair while shielding it from the overly-drying effects that blow drying can have. Proper levels of moisture also make your hair appear more radiant.

2. Use a safe temperature

Hot air is only unsafe for your hair when used incorrectly. If you are not using a concentrator nozzle to help smooth out your stands, you are going to have to go over your hair several times. Doing so will leave your hair overly dry and frizzy.

3. Be mindful of your roots

We’re all afraid of bringing that hot air too close to our roots and singing our scalps. So, if you are dedicated to ensuring that your roots stay healthy, you’ll want to aim the air outward rather than inward toward your scalp.

4. Allow your hair to dry naturally

Your hair is much more vulnerable to damage when it’s wet. So, once you’ve stepped out of the bath or shower, avoid rubbing it aggressively with a towel or going at it with a hair dryer right away.

Once you’ve stepped out of the bath or shower, avoid rubbing it aggressively with a towel or going at it with a hair dryer right away.

Rather use an old T-shirt or a towel to cover your hair and allow the excess water to be absorbed gently. Once your hair is around 60% dry, you can remove the garment and smooth your hair out.

After that, you’ll be ready to put in some leave-in conditioner and then dry your hair the rest of the way using a blow dryer.

T3 vs Dyson Hair Dryer

There’s no question that the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer is a more powerful, effective, and complete offering than the T3 Luxe hair dryer. It is simply a better product, as we’ve discussed above.

However, the Dyson is also almost twice the price of the T3, which is still quite a high-priced hair dryer! Many of us have to wonder whether the Dyson is really worth the cost.

That’s not an easy decision, but if you want the best, the Dyson is the way to go. And don’t forget the Dyson AirWrap as an alternative styling tool, as well!
