What Does Baby Powder After Spray Tan Do?

No products found.

Spray tans machines work by coating the outermost layer of (dead) skin with a solution known as DHA. DHA interacts with your dead skin cells and turns them brown.

Voila! Luscious tan skin!

You have to make sure that your skin is evenly coated, that it dries up completely, and make sure you avoid any kind of moisture. This will ensure you get an even tan without any ugly orange tones

That includes your sweat, which is why working out after a spray tan is something you shouldn’t do.

But during the hottest of the summer days, even doing nothing can cause you to break a sweat.

Are you simply doomed to have a streaky tan during summer due to your sweat?

That’s where the baby powder comes into the picture.

Baby Powder  is a product that is safe to apply to your skin after a spray tan. It helps you to avoid sweating, especially in areas where the skin folds like the hands, feet, knees, and elbows.

Due to the folding, the spray tan solution can smudge and crack.

Using baby powder can help prevent smudging and helps the spray tan solution set in place.

Additionally, baby powder  can also help ease the feeling of stickiness.

Depending on the formula of the spray tan solution, some sprays still feel sticky even after drying up. Baby powder can lessen that sticky feeling and lessen the risk of it sticking everywhere.

Baby powder, if used correctly, can help you achieve a more even and less streaky tan.

How To Apply Powder After Spray Tan

Although baby powder is quite helpful after a spray tan, applying it incorrectly can also cause unwanted results. Here is a quick guide on how to properly apply baby powder after you spray tan.

Step 1: Let The Spray Tan Dry

This is one of the most crucial steps in applying baby powder after your spray tan. You have to make sure the spray tan solution is completely dry. Don’t apply it right after getting your spray tan on.

You still have to stand there and wait until the solution is dry to the touch. Applying the powder to skin still wet with the solution can prevent the spray tan from being absorbed by your skin.

Step 2: Apply The Baby Powder

When applying the baby powder, make sure that you do it gently. You don’t want to smudge your spray tan in the process of applying the baby powder.

You can use a cosmetic brush to help you apply and spread the baby powder gently over your body. Some only use the baby powder for the creased areas of the body.

A bigger brush will help with larger areas, while a smaller one will do well for the creases.

An alternative way to apply baby powder is to blow over it. Dispense some powder on the brush or hold the bottle of powder and use the spray tanning equipment to blow air directly to the powder.

Step 3: Reapply The Baby Powder

There are spray tan shops that apply baby powder for you after the procedure. If you are spray tanning  at home, then you could also apply it on your own after the spray tan solution dries.

Reapplication of the baby powder is optional. Regardless, it would be best to do so especially before going to bed.

This helps you from sweating when you’re going to sleep.

Conclusion

Baby powder is a good product to use after spray tanning. It helps you achieve a more even and less streaky tan by helping the spray tan set. It prevents the spray tan solution from smudging and your sweat from ruining your spray tan.

Although it is a good product to use after a spray tan, proper application of baby powder should be done. If applied on wet spray tan solution or if applied harshly, then it could just smudges and an uneven or streaky tan.
