Are you planning to get eyelash extensions? With eyelash extensions, you save time preparing your makeup because you don’t have to deal with attaching false eyelashes.

Can you cry with eyelash extensions? Waterproof mascara will not run when you cry, but you’re not supposed to wear waterproof mascara with extensions. Will your tears cause your eyelash extensions to fall off, or damage them?

The good news is that your eyelash extensions are water-resistant, so you can cry with eyelash extensions. However, tears aren’t just made of water. They can still ruin your eyelash extensions if you cry a lot and too often.

Apart from that, there are some things you should know about crying with eyelash extensions.

Can You Cry With Eyelash Extensions?

Sometimes, we can’t help but cry. Whether it is due to tears of joy, sadness, or just because of a TV drama that you’re watching, you can get teary-eyed at any time.

Getting eyelash extensions doesn’t mean you are deprived of that expression of emotions! You can certainly cry, even when you have eyelash extensions.

Eyelash extensions can be made with a variety of materials. They could be synthetic or even natural hair. Most of the ones available are synthetic, mink or silk.

These feel like natural lashes and will act like hair. They can get wet, but that doesn’t ruin them. They are similar to your eyelashes and when they get wet with tears, they won’t melt.

That’s also a reason why you can wash your face or go swimming even when you are wearing eyelash extensions. The presence of water doesn’t ruin your eyelash extensions.

However, it is the glue that you should be worried about when crying. Water doesn’t remove the glue because it isn’t water-based. It won’t be easily removed if you wet your eyelashes with water.

Tears on the other hand contain other things like electrolytes and oil. Those are the ones that could ruin your eyelash extensions.

It won’t be immediately ruined by crying ones or a few times. But things can go off the rails if you cry before the glue has set (similarly, you can’t shower until the glue has set) Additionally, if you’re wearing non-waterproof mascara, well you’ll end up with runny mascara.

You can definitely cry even with eyelash extensions as long as the glue has properly cured.

When Should You Not Cry With Eyelash Extensions

As mentioned, you can cry with eyelash extensions because they won’t really get damaged if they are properly attached and the glue is properly cured.

However, apart from crying too much and too often, there are times when you shouldn’t cry with them. The first scenario is while the eyelash extensions are being applied to your eyelashes.

During Application and Curing

The procedure should be pain-free. There isn’t really any reason for you to cry while they are being attached, unless you found out that your boyfriend is breaking up with you.

If you experience any pain or discomfort, you should alert your eyelash tech immediately.

It is possible that you could be allergic to the glue which is why you might be feeling discomfort and could cry. If you cry during the procedure, the vapors or glue could spread and cause irritation.

Moisture or crying while going through the procedure will prevent the glue from drying and can affect the bond of the extensions to your natural eyelashes.

You shouldn’t cry with eyelash extensions during the first 12-24 hours after it was applied. Apart from crying, you should also avoid moisture in the area.

That’s because the eyelash glue is still undergoing the curing process. It is best to let the glue dry completely and cure completely before any moisture is introduced. That helps make sure your eyelash extensions last.

When You’re Wearing Non-Waterproof Mascara

As mentioned above, you can wear mascara with eyelash extensions, but you should not wear waterproof mascara. It’s much more difficult to remove and can take some of your extensions with it!

Non-waterproof mascara is fine with lash extensions, but if you cry with non-waterproof mascara, well you’ll end up with runny mascara.

Caution When Crying With Eyelash Extensions

Crying with eyelash extensions is possible but you should still be cautious when crying while you have eyelash extensions.

Many people tend to rub their eyes or vigorously wipe off the tears from their eyes. Although your eyelash extensions could withstand the moisture from your tears, they may still get ruined if you rub vigorously.

Your eyelash extensions can be removed with the force you use while wiping off your tears.

Just make sure that you are still careful when handling your eyelashes, even while crying.

Make sure that you are still careful when handling your eyelashes, even while crying.

When you cry with your eyelash extensions, make sure to rinse off your tears.

Crying is understandable and can sometimes be unavoidable. But you should still make sure your extensions aren’t soaked for a long time.

Tears aren’t just water. It contains salt, other electrolytes, and some oil that could weaken the bond created by the eyelash glue.

It would be best to always rinse your eyelashes after crying with eyelash extensions. Don’t let your tears dry up on your eyelash extension because it can slowly affect the glue.

Swimming And Showering With Eyelash Extensions

It is possible to go swimming even if you have eyelash extensions. Just make sure you wait long enough for the eyelash glue to properly cure. Plus remember that salt can help deteriorate the eyelash glue.

That means, if you are swimming on the beach, it is a good idea to rinse out your eyelashes so that the salt water doesn’t dry up on them.

The pool may not contain salt but remember that it could contain chlorine. Although your eyelash extensions won’t fall off because you swam in the pool once, prolonged periods of exposure to water and the chemicals can weaken the bond eventually.

When showering, it would be best to wait for about 24 hours just to make sure the eyelash glue is properly cured. Also, make sure you don’t directly face your eyelashes in the shower.

The pressure of the falling water can plus the moisture and possibly the steam if you are using hot water, can negatively affect the eyelash glue.
