Brow lamination is the latest beauty trend to take the internet by storm. It is a semi-permanent brow treatment beauty technique that straightens, sets, and tints your brow hairs for eight weeks, leaving you with full, fluffy, thick brows.

Brow lamination is typically done at a salon, and this may be your best place to start if you’re not familiar with the process. But you can get at-home brow lamination kits, and do your own (or your friends’!) brows.

So what is the process like? What are the Brow Lamination Steps to achieving perfect, stylish brows?

In this article, we’ll go over everything you need to know!

Eyebrow Lamination 101

Eyebrow lamination is sorta like a perm for your brows. It is a semi-permanent process where the brows get smoothed, straightened, organized, colored, and perfected.

Sweet!

Brow lamination is a less invasive, and less permanent process than microblading, and certainly less intense than an eyebrow tattoo. The process is a bit like a lash lift, but for your eyebrows!

You can have this process done at a salon by an eyebrow lamination tech, or do it at home yourself.

Brow Lamination Steps

Here are the steps involved in laminating your eyebrows.

Step 1: Consultation

This is the most crucial step in brow lamination. If you are getting your brows done at a salon, you’ll go over any skin issues, skin types, allergies, and other medical issues before starting the lamination process.

The lamination can cause adverse skin reactions, affecting the treatment outcome. You’ll also want to consider your eyebrow styling preferences and whether you are looking for sleek or bushy-looking brows.

Step 2: Trim and tweeze

Using an eyebrow comb, sort out the hair, trim, and plug the stray strands until the eyebrow has taken shape. Ensure that you do this for both brows to get matching shapes for the two brows.

A helpful tip is to outline with a brow pencil to determine where to pluck from to achieve uniformity.

Step 3: Clean The Eyebrows

Before beginning the treatment, thoroughly the brows need to be fully cleaned. This aids in the removal of dirt, makeup, natural oils, and other impurities. Use a cleanser with a neutral pH for maximum effectiveness.

To avoid skin irritation, do not exfoliate before lamination. Similarly, applying lamination products to broken skin causes noticeable irritation.

Step 4: Apply a primer

Primers help prepare brow hairs for treatment by softening their structure or easy shaping. They also aid in fully opening brow cuticles to allow lotions to penetrate deeper into the hair for maximum effect.

Leave the primer to work its magic for a few seconds before moving to the next step.

Step 5: Apply curling lotion, cling film, and heating mask.

The curling lotion softens the keratin in the hair, allowing for easy reshaping. To apply the curling lotion properly, start at the bottom from one end and work your way up so that the hairs that need to change direction can process for a while.

Cover the brows with enough curling lotion, cling film, and a heating mask, and gently press-stretch from both sides to ensure the lotion gets into the follicles.

While the cling film can be slowly removed after 12-15 minutes, the curling lotion processing time is determined by the coarseness of the hair and how much its direction needs to change.

Step 6: Apply fixing lotion and cling film.

Fixing lotion, as the name implies, shapes the brows. Apply eyebrow fix lotion to the entire brow and then shape it to your desired shape.

While shaping the brows, use a mini applicator brush to spread the lotion more evenly.

If you prefer sleek-looking brow lamination, you can neaten the top of the brow by brushing all brow hairs up and then to the side. If you prefer a bushy appearance, brush hairs up but not to the side and remove the cling film.

Cover your brows with cling film and press down firmly. Processing time is only a few minutes and does not cause skin irritation if left on for an extended period.

Remove the fixing lotion with a dry cotton bud or a Q-tip.

Step 7: Tinting

Tinting time varies according to the type of tint used and the desired outcome. Apply Vaseline to the skin around your brow to prevent the tint from staining it. Apply the desired tint to each brow and let it sit for 3 minutes.

With a cotton bud or a q-tip, remove the tint and comb the hair to ensure that every strand is tinted.

You can always reapply the tint after removing it if you want a much darker result.

Step 8: Nourish the hair

For healthier, glossier brows, experts recommend a nourishing keratin treatment as part of the brow lamination process for healthier, glossier brows.

Use a cotton bud to apply the nourishing oil to the eyebrows and let it soak in for 8 to 10 minutes. Remove the excess with a cotton bud.

Step 9: Final sculpting

To ensure that the outcome is clean and tidy, style the brows back into place and remove any stray hairs using gentle brow wax or tweezers. Clean the brows for any leftover hairs or chemical residues.

Useful Brow Lamination Tips

Brow lamination must always be performed before eyebrow waxing, threading, or plucking treatments.

Do not apply scrubs to the eyebrow area before lamination.
