Heated Lash Curler

It should be noted that although eyelashes are considered an important facial aesthetic, they do serve an important function! Eyelashes keep irritants away from the eye.

So whether they grow straight or curly, it is vital that they don’t become damaged in the pursuit of enhanced beauty.

Lashes grow about every four weeks to two months and have an average life cycle of five to 11 months.

Their curvature depends on your genetics. Some people have curvier lashes while others have really straight lashes. It all depends on the individual.

So, if you were born with straight lashes, there’s nothing that you can do to make them curlier permanently. That said, limited research has shown that the curvature of lashes can increase with age, so maybe there is something to be said about embracing your beauty as you get older.

This means you have to find the right tools, products, and techniques to get the effect of the thick and curly lashes you dream of.

My Eyelashes Won’t Stay Curled. Let’s Fix It!

Heated Eyelash Curler

If you choose to go down the more traditional route to shape your straight lashes, the following products are a great place to start.

The rising popularity of Asian beauty brands over the years means products that were previously only available in the Far East you can now buy Stateside. And this is a real bonus for those born with straight lashes!

Makeup companies that cater to East Asian features work very well for eyelashes that are straight and point downwards.

When it comes to eyelash curlers, which should be your first consideration, wider is definitely better for those with flatter, straight lashes. The Shiseido curler  works best for long, almond-shaped eyes. If you’ve got rounder eyes, check out Shu Uemura’s design . It aims to create a natural looking curl for rounder eyes.

Both curlers work by getting hold of your lashes as close to the root as possible, which makes all the difference if your lashes are really straight.

Even if you’re not Asian, they work better for fitting the eye shape of flatter lids with straight lashes. When it comes to lashes, eye shape matters!

Etude House Dr Mascara Lash Fixer  is a gel that will hold your curl all day and can be used as a primer for your mascara.

It also thickens your lashes to look more voluminous.

Finally, you’ll need a good waterproof mascara to hold your curly lashes in place (just be careful when removing it).

Hands down winner of holding a curl like no other on the Reddit boards is No products found.. It contains natural conditioners like argan oil, rose hip seed oil and camellia japonica seed oil that can help offset any damage to your lashes.

Curly Lashes Take Time!

Of course, even when you have all the best tools, you’ll still need to have the right technique if your eyelashes won’t stay curled.

Start with your eyelash curler. Make sure it fits the shape of your eye and gets as close to the roots as possible.

Some people swear by using a heated curler or heating your curler with a blowdryer (which you should not do). Take your time — even if it means holding at the root for 5-15 seconds, letting go, and holding again (do this up to eight times).

Finally, pump along the lash to the tips before you apply the primer.

It’s also worth noting that humid weather makes it harder for your lashes to stay curled.

Whatever you do, it is advised that you don’t use mascara before curling, because you’ll definitely lose lashes that way. Also, heating your lashes on a regular basis could damage them. The skin around your eyes is extremely thin and sensitive. You could release the curler only to find all your lashes have burnt off with it.

Don’t let it happen!

You should clean your curler on a regular basis, including the silicone/rubber cushions, or else it has the potential of damaging your lashes. Replace the cushions every three months as they wear out in order to keep your curler in top condition.

Getting A Lift

Curling your lashes every day isn’t recommended. It can make them dry and brittle, which is the opposite of what you want to do.

This is why many straight-lashed girls now agree that lash lifts are the way forward to keeping your eyelashes curled for longer with the least amount of damage. This is especially true for those with straight Asian-type lashes. Nothing else works for getting the curl you want like a lash lift.

So if your eyelashes won’t stay curled and you have some cash to splash, lash lifts will make your eyes instantly pop, even without the need for mascara (but you can still wear mascara if you want!.

You also don’t have to worry about being careful with washing or rubbing your eyes like you do if you have lash extensions, which are high-maintenance and far more expensive. That said, you still have to make sure you don’t get them wet during the first 24 hours.

Plus, a lash lift will last longer than lash extensions.

Lash Lifts: A Game Changer

If you decide to have a lash lift done at a salon, make sure you choose a licensed professional, because there are chemicals contained in the lifting solution. The process takes about an hour and will cost anywhere from $100 to $200, depending on where you live and the technician’s experience.

But because lash lifts can last for up to 10-12 weeks, many lash fanatics believe the investment is worth it.

Alternatively, you can try a DIY lash lift kit at home . Of course, this option is riskier and will only last about four weeks. But it is a cost-effective way to get a lash lift and there are plenty of tutorials on YouTube by beauty enthusiasts who will walk you through the process.

When you wake up in the morning and see yourself in the mirror with thick, curled lashes staring back at you, there may be no turning back from indulging in lash lifts.
