  1. Figure out the shape of your eyes and what fake lashes are best.
  2. Choose your desired effect.
  3. Select what type of fake lashes to get.
  4. Get the right size.

Step 1: Figure Out The Shape Of Your Eyes And What Fake Lashes Are Best

Eye Shapes Upturned Downturned Hooded Monolid Round Almond

Do you know the shape of your eyes?

That is a piece of important information in finding the fake lashes that are well suited for your eyes. The eye can be categorized into 6 different shapes, namely upturned, downturned, almond, monolid, hooded, and round.

The above image gives you the basics, but we’ve broken down each shape below.

Upturned Eyes

Take a look at the outer corners of your eye. If it turns up and the outer areas are higher than the inner corners, then you have that shape. Usually, they are also known as cat’s eyes because of the upward tilt.

With this eye shape, the bottom lash line curves upward meeting the upper lash line at the outer corner. Some known celebrities that have upturned eyes are Rihanna and Kendall Jenner.

The best fake lashes for this eye shape are those that are light and fluttery . Sometimes, a flared half lash at the outer corners is enough to put emphasis on the eyes.

Downturned Eyes

Downturned eyes are the opposite of upturned eyes. The outer corners drop slightly downwards. With this, it is the upper lash line that dips to meet the lower one. This eye shape has a vintage look due to the celebrities from the 1920s.

Fake lashes that are too heavy on the outer corners will just accentuate it. Instead, for a more modern look, you could stick to wispy lashes. You could also choose fake lashes that have the longest hair strands at the center.

Almond Eyes

This eye shape is similar to the shape of an almond. It is longer in width than they are round. If you don’t see any white at either the top or bottom of your iris, you have almond eyes.

Different lashes work well with this shape. One of the best to use is full lashes  because it accentuates the shape for a more dramatic look. You could also choose whispy and longer lashes  for a more natural look.

Monolid Eyes

This eye shape is common for Asians and it doesn’t have visible creases. Usually, the eyelashes are straight. In order to open up the eyes, it is best to use fluttery  and curled fake lashes.

Hooded Eyes

With hooded eyes, the eyelids won’t be visible when the eye is open. The brow bone is also prominent in this eye shape. Sometimes, people who have aged could also appear to have hooded eyes.

For those with this type of eye shape, it is best to get fake lashes  that are longer towards the middle. This can make the eyes look larger. However, more fluffy and dramatic lashes can pull down the lid.

Round Eyes

People with round eyes have a roundish shape to both the outer inner and outer corners of the eye. Also, the whites of the eye either below or above the iris can be seen.

With this type of eye shape, it is best to go for long, curly, and lightweight lashes  to enhance the upper eyelid.

It is best to avoid those that are thicker and voluminous because they can make the eye look smaller.

Step 2: Choose Your Desired Effect

No matter what shape your eye is, you can use fake lashes for a more natural look or a more dramatic one. A natural look will just accentuate your existing eyelashes for everyday use.

These are usually not that thick or long.

A more dramatic effect can be achieved if you choose mink style or fuller lashes. These are best for nights out or when you’re at parties.

Whatever you choose, make sure you are comfortable wearing them. Choose those that aren’t stiff, and have lighter bands.

Step 3: Select Which Type Of Fake Lashes To Get

There are different types of fake lashes. The traditional band-type  fake lashes are usually attached to your existing eyelashes with eyelash glue (don’t get it in your eyes!).

Similarly, there are band-type lashes that are shorter strips and are meant to be attached to several parts of your eyelashes to accentuate them.

You can also choose to get magnetic fake lashes . Magnetic lashes either “clamp” over your existing lashes, or they bond to a magnetic mascara.

There is also a more permanent option, which is eyelash extensions. These are semi-permanent, which will last for about 6 weeks.

Step 4: Get The Right Size

Aside from choosing fake eyelashes according to the shape of your eyes, it is important to choose the correct size. The correct size will look more natural and dynamic. Additionally, they are more comfortable to wear too.

Fake eyelashes come in different sizes. However, you can always trim the sides if you think they are too long. Some may also cut the fake eyelashes into two and just use half for each eye to accentuate the corners. This will depend on the look you want to achieve.

Conclusion

Fake eyelashes can put emphasis on your eyes. However, you should make sure you select the right ones for your eye shape.

To do that, you have to figure out the shape of your eyes first. Hopefully, our chart and descriptions have helped you out.

Once you know your shape, you want to consider the effect you want to achieve, the type of lashes, and the size of the lashes.
