Jumping in the sauna after a solid workout is amazing. You get instant relaxation and rejuvenation. Soothe those sore muscles and refill that exhausted mind.

So does Planet Fitness have a sauna or steam room in their gyms? That’s a complicated question! Not all Planet Fitness gyms have the same facilities, but most Planet Fitness branches do not have a sauna. In this article, we’ll explore the sauna situation at Planet Fitness, and give you the lowdown.

Why Is There No Sauna or Steam Room In Most Planet Fitness Gyms

In the Sauna

The Planet Fitness brand aims to be the gym for everyone. Clean, unimposing, friendly, and inexpensive. They even de-emphasize the “gym” aspect and promote the “fitness club” idea in much of their marketing materials. Their goal is to attract anyone who wants to go to the gym to use a machine or do some free weights without any judgment.

However, they also need to keep their costs down, so they skip the sauna in the vast majority of their locations.

If they were to put a sauna, a pool, a basketball court, etc. in every Planet Fitness gym, then membership fees would quickly go up. In particular, the costs of the Black Card Spa membership would rise., which covers most of the non-exercise parts of the Planet Fitness club.

Gym-appropriate saunas cost a lot to install and run, and the additional staff maintenance costs are not inexpensive!

However, that doesn’t mean that all Planet Fitness gyms don’t have a sauna. In selected locations, some gyms may offer their members a sauna.

Why Does Planet Fitness Have A Sauna In Selected Locations?

As we’ve said, although there are thousands of Planet Fitness gyms across the country, most do not have any sauna or steam room facilities.

However, there are some exceptions. In some gyms, a sauna or steam room is present. The sauna at Planet Fitness maybe your traditional steam room or they may also offer infrared saunas.

Planet Fitness gyms are individually owned and operated. That is why some gyms may offer other amenities that others do not. It will depend on the owner of the gym whether they’d offer a sauna in their gym or not.

Most of the Planet Fitness gyms that have a sauna are those that are located in locations that cater to higher-end clients. If most gyms in that area have a sauna, the operator of that particular Planet Fitness gym may install one as well in order to compete with other gyms.

Planet Fitness is a worldwide brand, and saunas may be more common in countries other than the US.

If having a sauna is a big part of the appeal of a gym membership, most likely Planet Fitness won’t be for you. But it’s always worth a call to your local branch since it’s possible they have one.

Alternatives to Saunas and Steam Rooms

Planet Fitness has their Black Card membership, as mentioned above. This membership includes access to the Black Card spa area, which provides amenities like Total Body Enhancement, Planet Fitness Tanning beds and spray tanning, and the awesome Hydromassage.

None of these is a true substitute for a sauna. But if you’re looking for relaxation, the Hydromassage Beds are outstanding. If it’s rejuvenation you seek, the Total Body Enhancement Beauty Angel machines are heavenly.

Home Saunas and Portable Saunas

If you love the Planet Fitness brand and ethos (or they’re just super convenient to your home or office) but still want a sauna, you could consider a home infrared sauna, like this one from Radiant Saunas.

The price point on these is pretty high, and they take up a lot of space. But infrared saunas are pretty convenient for home use, and work well.

If the price point is too high, you could always go for one of these portable sauna units. They look silly, but also work pretty well.

We hope we’ve made the sauna situation at Planet Fitness clear. Most likely the Planet Fitness branch near you will not have a sauna, but it’s possible. It’s always worth a try to call your specific branch.

And if you haven’t tried the Total Body Enhancement or the Hydromassage, they’re certainly great alternatives!
