Planet Fitness Vs Crossfit: The Workout Style

Planet Fitness is a gym that targets even those who haven’t been to gyms before. They make newbies comfortable by having a few rules that seem unnecessary to other, more experienced gym enthusiasts.

Planet Fitness provides various gym equipment. However, they do not have heavier free weights, punching bags, and other common gym equipment. Instead, they have machines for cardio like rowing machines, and Smith machines for weights.

PF selects equipment that can be safely used by beginners even when no instructor or staff is around.

You can have a full-body workout at Planet Fitness using their gym equipment. They also offer a variety of classes that you can attend, often including yoga. The classes they offer will depend on the availability and ability of the instructor to teach a class.

You can focus on targeting a muscle group when you work out there. Their workout plan would include working on the upper body, lower body, whole-body cardio, etc. The workout you do will highly depend on what you want or on what your plan dictates.

On the other hand, Crossfit gyms usually don’t have a lot of gym equipment. The workout consists of functional movements or actions that you do every day. It would include squatting, pushing, pulling, and weight lifting.

The goal of Crossfit is to strengthen the body and to aim for power and repetition. Crossfit breaks out of the gym machine mold and puts a heavy focus on community exercise activity.

Crossfit workouts often include using equipment like bikes, rowers, speed ropes, rings, kettlebells, and plyo boxes.

With Crossfit gyms, there is a standard workout that changes daily. It is done by every member of the gym. This system fosters competition and cooperation.

Substitutions are also listed so that members who aren’t at the same level can do appropriate workouts that will be safe for them.

Planet Fitness Vs Crossfit: The Cost

Planet Fitness is mostly known for providing low-cost gym membership. You can become a member for as low as $10 a month. That gives you access to their gym equipment.

However, if you want full access even with their other body enhancement machines, you could choose the Black Card membership, which will cost higher.

The membership also allows you to work with their fitness trainer. Basically, they will explain the equipment and teach you how to use them. They may also offer to help you design an exercise program that you should follow.

At Crossfit gyms, the cost is a lot higher than Planet Fitness. It could cost in the realm of $150-$200 a month, depending on the location and plan. There is a huge difference between the two!

However, you have to remember that with Crossfit gyms, the instructor is always there to guide you. They are there to instruct you and to make sure of your safety. They check if you are doing the workout right or if you are going to hurt yourself in the process.

Many find this to be well worth the additional cost.

Planet Fitness Vs Crossfit: The Community

At Planet Fitness you can go there with a friend or alone. You can work out on your own and no one will mind what you do as long as you don’t do activities that will activate the lunk alarm

If you prefer to work out on your own, you can do that in Planet Fitness. You can follow a workout plan or just use the exercise equipment that you want to use.

For Crossfit gyms, there is a workout of the day that’s being followed by all. Some competitive fitness enthusiasts might try to do them all while others might do modifications or alternatives depending on their level.

Nevertheless, having others around can help push you to do your best. The activities become competitive, and friendly competition can help you get to the next level.

Does Planet Fitness Have CrossFit?

Does any Planet Fitness franchise location offer CrossFit-style programs and classes? It’s an interesting idea, but none of the PFs we are aware of offer anything like a CrossFit program.

The CrossFit exercise regime is so different than PF’s programs, it’s unlikely that any location will bother to set up such a system.

But if it happens, we’ll let you know!

Conclusion

In the battle of Planet Fitness Vs Crossfit gyms, there isn’t a clear winner on who is better than the other. It is a personal decision to choose which type of gym is more suitable.

Both PF and Crossfit are set up as individual franchises. All Planet Fitnesses are named Planet Fitness, while various Crossfit locations have different individual branding.

Those who have a tighter budget and would prefer to work out alone in a judgement-free zone should lean toward Planet Fitness. Although they mostly have cardio and strength machines, you can still get a decent workout with PF.

On the other hand, those who wish to further improve their body’s strength and power could go for Crossfit gyms. They use functional movements to train the body. However, they are much more expensive than the membership at Planet Fitness.
